Senate Judiciary Committee Proposal Adds 30,000 More H-1Bs per Fiscal Year According to American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), recently, The U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee passed a proposal to provide limited H-1B relief by temporarily increasing the annual H1B quota. However, this proposal is not a law yet. In order to become a law, both the U.S. Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives would have to approve the proposal, and the U.S. President would have to sign the bill. But we can definitely regard it as a positive signal that there is some movement in the legislation aimed at addressing the problems caused by the H-1B cap. It is reported that more H1B cap numbers were available than needed during a decade from the fiscal year 1992 to 2004. In total, approximately 310,000 H-1B visas were not used. The Senate Judiciary Committee Proposal would make these unused visas available until they run out, at a rate of no more than 30,000 additional H-1Bs per fiscal year. Moreover, once the normal H-1B cap had been met in a certain fiscal year, if an alien wants to apply for one of these additional H-1Bs, he/she would be required to pay an additional $500 fee.At Zhang & Associates, we shoulder your American Dream.
