Visa Bulletin for September 2007 Better than Expected

The Department of State released the latest Visa Bulletin for September 2007 on August 15. The situation is not as bad as estimated by many people earlier. As visa numbers were available for almost all employment-based immigration categories for July 2007, tens of thousands of applicants submitted their I-485 applications in July and August. There was a concern that this surge of application will lead to big retrogression in visa bulletin. However, compared to June 2007, the situation is not as bad as predicted. The following are cut-off dates for employment-based immigration petitions. Dates in the parentheses are cut-off dates for June 2006.

For people born in mainland China:
EB1: January 1, 2007 (Current)
EB2: January 1, 2006 (January 1, 2006)
EB3: Unavailable (June 1, 2003).

Cut-off dates for people born in India:
EB1: January 1, 2007 (Current)
EB2: April 1, 2004 (April 1, 2004)
EB3: Unavailable (June 1, 2003).

All chargeability areas except China, India, Mexico and Philippines:
EB1: January 1, 2007 (Current)
EB2: January 1, 2007 (Current)
EB3: August 1, 2002 (June 1, 2005)
