New Propositions in Senate Immigration Reform Bill

After almost a week of contentious debate over a comprehensive immigration bill, the Senate made some modifications on the previous achieved bi-partisan agreement. Here are some highlights of the new propositions:

In the previous bi-partisan agreement, the proposed guest-worker program allows 400,000 workers work in the US each year. Now this number was cut to 200,000 each year.
The new bill will require illegal immigrants to pay back taxes on their earnings for the time they had been in the United States .
The new bill will increase the fees for H-1B visas from $1,500 to $8,500. This additional fee would be on top of existing fees, and funds would be used for training and scholarship programs to protect American workers.

Senators said Thursday they expect the bill to pass.
