DALLAS DISTRICT
I-485 PILOT PROGRAM
Welcome to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’
(USCIS) Adjustment of Status (I-485) Pilot Program – Dallas District
Office
The Dallas District office is conducting a pilot program
designed to test our ability to complete the adjustment of status process
within 90 days of filing, eliminating the need for interim employment
and travel authorization. It tests the belief that significant strides
in backlog reduction can be accomplished on a dual-track system that
addresses both the backlog of cases that already exist and future filings.
This essentially serves the public more efficiently by working both
ends simultaneously. This pilot will also track several aspects of the
adjudication process to determine strengths and weaknesses in the adjudication
process to include:
-
Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust
Status (Form I-485) with supporting documentation
-
Petition for Alien Relative (Form I-130) for family-based
applicants with supporting documentation (or Form I-797 approval/receipt
notice, if applicable). Documents which provide evidence of valid
relationship to petitioner must also be included
-
State Department notification for Diversity Lottery
recipients with supporting documentation
-
Medical Exam (Form I-693) and Supplemental Form to
I-693 (Form I-693A)
-
Affidavit of Support (Form I-864) for family-based
applicants and supporting documentation (not required for DV lottery
winners)
-
Two (2) adit-style photographs
-
Form I-129F approval notice, if applicable
Please review each individual form to see what documents must be
attached. Your appointment notice will include a list of the specific
documents you will need to bring for your appointment. You MUST have
all the required documents to be interviewed through the pilot program,
including the completed medical examination and supplemental form
to the medical exam. BRING IN ORIGINALS AND COPIES. ORIGINALS WILL
NOT BE RETURNED IF YOU DO NOT PROVIDE COPIES.
Where can I get the forms I need?
All the necessary forms can be downloaded from the USCIS website
at www.uscis.gov. The medical exam (Form I-693) and its supplement
(Form I-693A) will be provided by the doctor who conducts your exam.
How do I get an appointment?
Appointments will be scheduled through INFOPASS. More
information on this system will be forthcoming. On the date of your
appointment, you will report to the USCIS office located at 3010 North
Stemmons Freeway, Dallas, Texas 75247. Please present your electronic
appointment notice to the security guards. Please report to our office
no earlier than thirty (30) minutes prior to your scheduled time. Both
applicant and petitioner (if family-based) must be present for the interview.
Expect to spend approximately three (3) hours at our office.
What can I expect at the interview?
Once in the building, an immigration information officer
will review your documents.
If you have the required documents, your case will be
forwarded to a district adjudications officer. The officer will review
your documents to determine if they are complete and then conduct the
interview. If there is an indication that your case cannot be completed
within 90 days, the officer will provide filing instructions for employment
and travel authorization.
If you do not bring in all of the required documents, you will not
be interviewed. You will be given the option to:
-
Take your documents and be rescheduled by our office
if the required documents can be obtained within 7 days;
-
Take your documents, obtain the missing documents,
and schedule another appointment through INFOPASS;
-
Turn in your documents “as is.” They
will be routed through the normal filing channels. A receipt for the
fees paid will be sent by mail. You will be sent a Request for Evidence
(Form I-72) to allow you time to submit the missing evidence, and
you will be scheduled for interview as if you had filed through the
mail. You may submit an application for employment and/or travel document
as you deem necessary. The information officer will brief you regarding
travel eligibility.
Upon completion of the interview, your file will be
sent to the National Benefits Center (NBC) for initial processing. The
NBC will assign you a file number (commonly known as an “A”
number) if you do not already have one.
The NBC will send you instructions to schedule an appointment for
fingerprints at one of our Applications Support Centers (ASCs). Please
schedule your appointment immediately upon receipt of your Form I-797
with scheduling instructions. Failure to do so will delay the completion
of your case.
Where do I get my fingerprints taken?
There are four Applications Support Centers (ASCs) available for
applicants in the Dallas District. Ensure you have a Form I-797 notification
to have your fingerprints taken prior to calling for an appointment.
Please see the attached link for addresses to the Dallas District
ASC closest to you.

When do I become a Lawful Permanent Resident?
If you meet all eligibility requirements, including all security
checks, you will be sent an approval notice to your e-mail address,
or home mailing address on or after the 70th day of your interview.
The notice will allow you to appear at our office to have your valid,
unexpired passport stamped with evidence that you are a lawful permanent
resident while you await your permanent resident card to come by mail.
What if my case is not completed within the initial 90-day
period?
If your case cannot be completed by the 70th day after
your interview, you will be sent a notice to your e-mail address or
to your home mailing address. This will state that you have the option
of filing an Application for Employment (Form I-765) and/or Application
for Travel Document (Form I-131) with appropriate fee.
The notice will include an appointment for a day and
time to process the above applications, and to receive them as well.
If we are able to complete your case by your appointment date, you will
receive an approval notice or a stamp in your valid, unexpired passport
as proof of permanent residence.
NOTE: You may file an Application for
Employment or Travel Document at any point during the processing of
your application if an emergency arises and you feel the need to apply
for either or both.
