Massive Rallies in the US Cities to Protest the Illegal Immigration Legislation Last weekend, some big cities broke out protests against a proposed legislation that would crack down illegal immigration. The march in Los Angeles on March 25th was the biggest one, in which more than 500,000 people engaged. The protesters worn white T-shirts as a sign of peace, and waved flags of the U.S. , Mexico , Guatemala and other countries. They blocked the streets of LA and peacefully expressed their claim to obtain legal status in US. President Bush is pushing a guest worker program to give the estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants in the US temporary legal status. However, the House passed a measure in December, 2005, that would make being an undocumented immigrant a felony, and impose penalties on the employers who hire illegal immigrants and erect a fence along one third of the US-Mexico border. The House declared that the new measure was for the sake of enhancing homeland security and protecting legal citizens' rights. Mainly consisted of undocumented immigrants, the massive rally demanded to abandon the House-passed legislation.
