Bush Calls on Congress to Raise H-1B CapOn February 2, 2006, U.S. President Bush visited the 3M Corporate Headquarters, where he called on Congress to raise H-1B cap when outlining his American Competitiveness Initiative. Considering there are more high-tech jobs in America today than people available to fill them, Bush said, "The problem is that Congress has limited the number of H1B visas that can come and apply for a job. I think it's a mistake not to encourage more really bright folks who can fill the jobs that are having trouble being filled here in America -- to limit their number. And so I call upon Congress to be realistic and reasonable and raise that cap." Last December, U.S. congress passed Budget Reconciliation Bill without H-1B visa provisions. On January 18, 2006, USCIS announced that 20,000 H-1B Exemption Cap had been reached. Therefore, many qualified aliens would not work in America as they expected due to H-1B cap limit. We hope that Bush's words can positively affect the congress to help those people who want to work in America fulfill their dreams.
