Immigration in Bush's State of the Union Address

President of the United States , George W. Bush addressed Congress this passing Tuesday (January 31, 2006) night in the State of the Union address. Within one-hour speech, Mr. Bush talked about many fields such as anti-terrorism, war on Iraq, Economy, health care, education, energy and immigration, etc.  

When talking about economy, Mr. Bush recognized immigrants' key role in developing American economy, he said that "We hear claims that immigrants are somehow bad for the economy -- even though this economy could not function without them."

When talking about immigration, Mr. Bush said, "Keeping America competitive requires an immigration system that upholds our laws, reflects our values, and serves the interests of our economy. Our nation needs orderly and secure borders. To meet this goal, we must have stronger immigration enforcement and border protection. And we must have a rational, humane guest worker program that rejects amnesty, allows temporary jobs for people who seek them legally, and reduces smuggling and crime at the border. "

As many of us may know, the Republicans voted to support President Bush's guest worker program last week. Currently, there are four Senate Immigration Reform Proposals including a Guest Worker Program. We predict that some sort of guest-worker program will pass the Senate sometime this year.
