DOL Office of Foreign Labor Certification Releases PERM Program Statistics for Q1 for FY 2014

The Department of Labor Office of Foreign Labor Certification recently released new statistics regarding PERM applications for the First Quarter of the Fiscal Year 2014.

For the fiscal year of 2014, the DOL have so far received 17,623 PERM applications in the first quarter. The 2014 Q1 saw a 3% increase from 2013 Q1. Of the 17,623 PERM applications, 64% is under the “Analyst Review” stage,  25% under “Audit Review” stage, 9% under “Appeal” stage and 1% in the “Sponsorship/BE” stage. In the first quarter of 2014, there have been 9,076 PERM applications certified, 1,039 denied, and 949 withdrawn.

DOL also released the top 5 occupations of certified PERM applications for the first quarter of 2014, including: Computer and Mathematical (58%), Architecture and Engineering (11%), Management (8%), Business and Financial Operations (6%), and Education, Training and Library (5%). The top 5 work site states of certified applications include: California (22%), Washington (12%), Texas (9%), New York (8%), and New Jersey (7%). The Top 5 Industries (according to NAICS Code by Industry classifications) of certified applications are: Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (42%), Information (16%), Manufacturing (15%), Educational Services (7%), and Finance and Insurance (5%).

In addition, the DOL released statistics on the top 5 visa classifications, top 5 countries of citizenship, and the minimum education requirements of certified PERM applications in the first quarter of 2014. The top 5 visa classifications of certified applications include: H-1B (83%), L-1 (6%), Blank (3%), F-1 (2%) and Parolee (1%). Of all of certified PERM applications in the first quarter of 2014, the top 5 countries of citizenship that they belong to are: India (56%), China (7%), Canada (5%), South Korea (4%), and Mexico (3%). The minimum education requirements of certified PERM applications in the first quarter of 2014 include: Advanced Degree (54%), Bachelor’s Degree (39%), Other (4%), and Less than Bachelor’s (3%).
