Owen Gu is a licensed lawyer in New York and New Jersey. He was born in Beijing, China and received his Bachelor of Commerce degree (Honors) from Queen’s University in Canada. Subsequently, he was awarded the St. Thomas More Full Tuition Scholarship to attend St. John’s University School of Law in New York City where he earned Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.). While at law school, he served as the Notes and Publications Editor for New York Real Property Law Journal and actively participated in various legal internship programs, including but not limited to judicial internship program with New York City Civil Court (Housing Part), externship program with New York City Police Department –Legal bureau, volunteer internship program with Queens District Attorneys Office, and international legal internship program with United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.

During his tenure at UNODC in Vienna, Austria, Mr. Gu took active part in the day-to-day work of the Corruption and Economic Crime Branch of the Division for Treaty Affairs, contributing to legal work aimed at promoting the ratification and implementation of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC).  He was also involved in the preparation of a major event, namely the first meeting of the Implementation Review Group for the United Nations Convention against Corruption. During this meeting, he received delegations from China, Macau (China), and Singapore and familiarized delegates with the UNCAC Self-Assessment Checklist thus contributing to the overall understanding of their obligations stemming from the UNCAC Review Mechanism.

Prior to coming to Zhang & Attorneys, L.P., Mr. Gu practiced with a boutique law firm in New York City, focusing on commercial litigations, immigration, and matrimonial law. He joined Zhang & Attorneys, L.P. as a business development attorney with a focus on developing Chinese market and advising Chinese corporations and individuals on U.S. immigration and corporation laws.

In his free time, he enjoys reading Chinese history, travelling and networking with professionals from various disciplines.
