Zhang & Associates Austin Branch Moves to the Old West Austin Historic District Zhang & Associates, P.C., U.S. Immigration Attorneys and Counselors, has moved its Austin office to one of the city’s landmark neighborhoods – the Old West Austin Historic District. The Austin office now provides free, convenient parking. The office is located at the corner of West 12th Street and Castle Hill, two blocks west of Lamar Blvd. on West 12th Street, making it easily accessible for UT post-docs, researchers, students, and professionals throughout Austin. Using natural stones, wood, nontoxic paint, and energy saving light bulbs, every effort is being made to make the office a ‘Green’ building. Listed in the National Register of Historic Places, the Old West Austin Historic District is one of the city’s few pockets untouched by the construction boom of the last two decades. The neighborhood’s homes and buildings represent architecture ranging from the mid-19th Century through the mid-20th Century. One block to the west stands one of Austin’s Moonlight towers, which illuminated city streets in the late 19th Century. The 12th Street tower still lights the street today. One block to the south stands the oldest college building in Texas; known as “The Castle,” in 1869 the building was home to the Texas Military Institute. In 1876 the Institute moved to College Station, changing its name to what we know it by today – Texas A&M University. Many years ago a small grocery store supporting local agriculture named “Whole Foods” opened in the neighborhood. Now a global food retailer, the company’s world headquarters and main store remain nearby, at the corner of West 5th Street and Lamar.
