CRM Has Become a Critical Tool in My Work

Attorney Annie Yang

It was a miserable day. Chicago’s icy snow and piercing chill made me uncomfortable. Five clients’ NIW cases had passed their processing time a while back and I promised my clients that I would be calling the 800 number to check their case status. Finally, I picked up the phone and dialed that number. After a long wait, an officer answered, "What do you call for?" I replied, "I’d like to inquire five of my clients’ case status?" The gentleman raised his pitch, "What? Five clients? What’s the receipt number and filing date?" The officer was not patient but continued asking, "The petitioner’s name and address?" Thanks to my assistant’s help, I had been well prepared. "Give me the birthdates?" asked the officer. I sensed his wicked smile. I responded, "I don’t have their birthdates available right now. I have never been asked for the birthdates before." "Sorry, then you have to get the birthdates and call again." the officer seemed to be relieved and proudly enjoy this ending. I felt more uncomfortable: this is the only reward for a half-hour wait? I suddenly thought of Siebel and immediately stopped him, "Wait for a moment, I do have their birthdates." Through a few clicks, I got all the information from the CRM system. As a result, Siebel made my day.

Siebel is a central database that provides reference and information I am in need of every day. The "search" feature makes my work easier. Furthermore, I don’t need to maintain this database. I don’t need to install the software, or update it. I don’t need to worry that suddenly I cry out, "Oh, My God, all my data are gone. Where is the backup?" By contrast, I experienced all the terrible time with Outlook. I never forget that like a nightmare when my Windows went corrupt. All my Outlook emails and client information were lost. Through such pains and tears, I realized that the CRM system was great in that it released my mind and soul.

In addition, it is a powerful communication shortcut that saves time and energy. I may just type a task in the system and click it. It is done. I don’t need to keep track of it because the system will carry the task out. It is our colleague’s turn to follow up. Through the system, this function shortens our communication tradition of "greeting courtesy."

Just because of its greatness, I have become more and more skillful in the CRM. As I recall, I felt so awkward at the beginning when I had been overwhelmingly dominated by Outlook. As times goes, Siebel has become indispensable to me. I urge our colleagues to use it and let it become part of your work life.
